  CHAPTER 1

Diana was cowering behind a tree when the first explosion hit.

Her worldly travels had never prepared her for this. The heat was beyond intense. She'd had to curl into a fetal position to protect her face from the debris that rained down from above.

Tears streamed down her eyes, mixing with the dust from the explosion. She cried in great hiccuping sobs, trembling with fear and anxiety. It wasn't supposed to be like this, she told herself.

She'd begun to sit up while the fire raged behind her. Someone will come find me soon, I've paid too much to be abandoned. Millions of dollars she'd spent. Millions. With that she should have had piece of mind.

Her society friends believed her eccentric. After inheriting her parents oil fortune at the ripe age of twenty, she set about preparing herself for the worst case scenario, no matter what that might be. After a couple of years of discussions with her planners, and having a member of her staff researching the issues, she was convinced to invest in a completely self sufficient bunker.

Her friends would laugh at her, telling her she was buying some underground condo that she'd never visit. Why not purchase in Maui or the Bahamas? Why throw such a fortune away?

All of her friends were dead now.

She had ceased sobbing, content to let only a tear trickle down her cheek. She lay her head back against the tree, wondering where the person who was to fetch her was.

That's when a second, closer explosion hit.

Screaming she scrambled to her feet, clutching her over sized, designer bag to her impeccably tailored suit. She stumbled away as quickly as her high heels would let her, as she had to yank them free of the mud's grip every other step. Some primal part of her mind suggested that she remove the shoes, she might run faster, but she knew better. Her feet were far too delicate for this sort of terrain.

So she plunged headfirst into the woods, her tears streaming behind her, desperately trying to escape the flames that were consuming everything that was left of her life after the fall.

Finally she emerged into a small meadow, with a shallow brook running through the middle. She paused to catch her breath, hugging her purse to her chest and leaning forward. She'd never run so fast outside of a gym. She clutched her stomach as her lunch threatened to come back up. A hesitant glance behind confirmed her worse fear. The whole compound was on fire.

That was when she noticed the creature on the far side of the clearing. She took a cautious step closer, trying to adjust her eyes enough so that she could make out what it was. She could make out the grotesque sounds of eating, even over the commotion.

It was a man! She could clearly make out the jeans, belt and torn shirt. Still, something was wrong. He was squatting next to what appeared to be a deer carcass.

A human is a human, she assured herself, and called out for his attention. “Excuse me? Sir?”

He leaned down further, yanking something from the carcass and pulling. The sloppy munching sounds continued.

She raised her voice, “Sir, please, I'm in need of help.”

  Again he did not respond.

Diana was unaccustomed to this sort of treatment. She shoved her bag back to her shoulder, and lay her hands to her hips. “Sir?” She practically shouted, while simultaneously leaning forward to touch his arm.

Several things happened at once. The man dropped his food and leapt on top of her, more quickly than she could react. She simply was standing one moment, and on her back the next. She might already be dead if he had not hesitated above her. His eyes glowed yellow and his teeth were elongated into fangs.

She screamed then, facing her own death for the first time in her two decades on the planet.

The creature, for it was no longer a man, growled down at her. Saliva dripped on her cheek. He seemed to hesitate, as if he wasn't quite certain what to do with her.

That was when his head burst like a melon. She lay below as the body dropped heavily on top of her. Blood and viscera flowed over her face. She was stunned for several long seconds before she began to pierce the air with her screams of terror.

  CHAPTER 2

She only stopped screaming when a hand slapped her face, hard.

“Shut up, you dumb bitch. You want to bring them down on us?” She felt herself being shook repeatedly by the shoulders, hard. The body of the creature lay next to her, headless.

She must have been in shock to not notice the epithet he used to describe her. He, however, stood before her dressed completely in black, head to toe. Even his head was covered in a black mask that he'd pulled back to his forehead. He had guns and knives strapped anywhere that they could be without hindering his movement. He reminded her of some sort of movie spy.

“We have to go. Come on,” He jerked her to her feet, and she tried to comply. She felt her legs immediately turn to mush and she crumbled to the ground.

“Get. Up.” He growled, yanking her up by the elbow once more. She felt the tears once again rush to her cheeks. She had heard the stories that there were creatures running rampant over the world, but she'd never believed them. She just assumed it was propaganda to hide the fact that America had been attacked. It was irrelevant to her what had happened, she had been nice and cozy inside her bunker condo.

He jerked her shoulders to face him and very slowly looked her over. She was trembling in fear. When he spoke, she could feel the command in his voice. “You will follow me, or you will die, do you understand?”

She nodded, once, her eyes puffy and red. He turned from her and began to walk towards the other end of the forest. She followed behind, her eyes downcast and clutching her arms. She began to follow him, shakily on her high heels. That's when the growls began.

“Fuck,” he muttered, his eyes scanning the tree line. “Get down!” he shouted, pushing her to her knees. Others like the man she'd seen before began to pour through. He did not hesitate. He suddenly had knives in both hands slashing and stabbing above her, stopping the advance of creatures. He expertly sliced into each one, stabbing through their eye sockets, necks or temples, and the bodies began to pile around him in a circle.

When finally no more appeared, he wiped his weaponry against his clothing, before sheathing it. She knelt wide eyed at his feet, terror and shock clear upon her face. He spent a long moment staring at her, before pulling her again to her feet by her elbow. He pushed her back to her knees at the edge of the creek.

“Clean yourself up,” he commanded. She nodded once and began to scrub her face and arms in the cold water. He stood next to her, scanning the trees for any signs of hostiles.

“Are you going to take me back now?” She asked, hesitantly.

His eyes narrowed and he looked down at her. “What? Where?”

She wiped her wet hands on her clothing, having gotten as clean as she might considering the circumstances. “Well, look at you. Clearly you came out here to rescue me, so can we head back now? Or do we need to wait for the fires to die down?”

His eyes widened in comprehension. She could see him muttering curse words to himself.

“What is it?” She prodded. “Do we have to go to the backup site?”

“You're one of the bunker bitches.” He said, simply. “That makes sense, you clearly hav
e no idea what you're doing out here.”

She stammered in protest. “'Bunker bitches?' How dare you, do you even know who I am?” She slowly rose to her feet, adjusting her bag to her shoulder before putting her hands on her hips.

“I do now.” He stated before quickly gathering her into his arms. Before she could struggle against him, a cloth was held against her nose and mouth. The world went dark.

  CHAPTER 3

  Diana awoke in a cage.

At least, it was something like a cage, only tall enough for her to sit up in, and certainly not long enough for her to pay down properly. She wasn't sure how long she had been out, but her muscles already protested the strange position.

“Hey! Where am I? Let me out of here!” She screamed, banging at the metal of the cage. Though she kicked at the bars and shook them with her hands, nothing budged. This was clearly a well made kennel for a large dog or something of the sort.

Finally, when her voice was hoarse from screaming, she curled into a ball at the furthest end of the cage. She wasn't sure what to do, no one was doing as she said. She knew she did not deserve to be treated like this.

Once she'd been quiet for a bit, the door to the room opened. The man from before entered, carrying a pair of covered, silver plates with him. He lay them both upon the table near her, and sat down in the hard chair, the only normal pieces of furniture in the room. He removed the cover from one of the dishes and began to eat.

The wonderful smell of steak filled the room, causing her stomach to growl. She had no idea how long it had been since she'd last eaten. It was obviously before the first alert siren sounded and she'd had to flee into the world.

The man very slowly and deliberately took a bite of his steak, his eyes never leaving hers. She licked her lips as he took another bite.

Finally she could take no more. “Well, why am I in here?”

He pulled a napkin from his lap and slowly dabbed at his lips. He set it down before moving to the other side of the table and leaning against it, crossing his arms.

“Why are you in there?” he asked her back. “Because you are an incredibly fortunate young woman.”

“I fail to see that. All I see is that you've kidnapped me and I'd like to know for what purpose!”

He laughed darkly then and walked back to his chair, sitting back down and cutting another bite of steak.

“What do you want, money? I have plenty. Just let me go and I'll fetch you whatever you want.”

“I do not need your money.” He said, slowly running the sharp knife into the cooked meat. “And I already have what I want.”

  “Then why?” she pressed.

He again slowly brought the napkin to his lips. “Let's just say you owe the proletariat a great debt.” He leaned back in his chair, his eyes roaming over her body lustfully.

She pulled her knees closer to her chest, “Why am I fortunate then? I'm trapped, you can do whatever you want to me, I can't overpower you. You could rape and kill me, I could do nothing to stop you.”

He laughed darkly and kept eating. “That is true, my dear. I could. But in fact, you are free to go, whenever you ask. You need only speak the safe word, 'bananas'”

  “bana..”

He held up one finger to her, while he chewed. She stopped mid word. His hair, dark and a bit too long, fell forward across his face. “If you speak that word, you must understand. You will forfeit everything that we have here, and I shall not allow you back into my sphere of influence.”

“Why do I care about that?”

He shrugged. “You saw what I did before. You know I can take the creatures. I excel at it. You will be safe, here, and provided for. I will even teach you some of what I know, so eventually you can survive alone.”

She knew nothing was ever free. “In exchange for what? A million dollars? Two?”

He laughed then. “Do not take me for a fool. Once you cleaned yourself up, I knew exactly who you were. You are worth closer to a billion dollars.”

  She reddened. “Yes but...”

“I am not interested in your money. It means nothing now. You mean nothing now.”

She leaned forward, wrapping her hands around the bars and shaking them. “How dare you!”

“How dare I? As I said, you are fortunate. I will give you the greatest gift of all, the ability to stay alive. All you need do is submit.”

“Submit? What you want a sex slave? I am no whore...”

“No, not yet you aren't. And I want more than that. You will completely be my pet, submitting to my every whim.”

Her eyes moved to the door. He finished his last bite of steak and put the cover back on the plate.

“And just to show you I'm not a bad guy, I've made up this bag of provisions, and a knife, right here for you.” He gestured to the door where a bag did lay.

He stood then and opened the bag so that she could see it was full of food and water. It was more than enough for her to survive some amount of time in the wilds. That is, if no creatures roamed free.

“And before you think that you'll be able to make it back to the bunker,” he continued, “you should know that it has been destroyed.”

Her eyes widened, fear clutched at her chest. Everything she owned was there, everything that made her who she was.

His eyes narrowed. “I am your best chance of survival now.”

She closed her eyes tightly struggling with what he was telling her. Maybe he was lying? Maybe he just didn't know? Still, she preferred this situation to out there. She nodded her consent.

  CHAPTER 4

A cruel grin crossed his face. He knelt in front of her cage. “Put your hands out through the bars.”

She did as he asked, and he pushed her wrists together, expertly sliding a plastic tie around them. He shook her hands once to make sure they were tight.

She was still afraid, but it was not the same as when she was in the meadow. This fear was mixed with a twinge of excitement and curiosity. Though she'd been with men before, she'd never been experimental. This man was dangerous, and she wanted to know what he was after.

He then moved to the door of the cage and opened it.

“Crawl out,” he commanded. She did as he asked, awkwardly due to her hands being tied in front of her. When she was out, and kneeling, he tugged her to her feet.

“The first thing is for you to understand your role in this. You are mine. You belong to me for me to do with whatever I choose.”

He drew something from behind his back, and slowly fastened it around her neck. “What the Hell, a dog collar?” She asked indignantly.

He laughed and clipped a leash onto it. “You will learn you are not special. You are nothing except to me, my pet.”

Securely fastened, he pulled her forward, pressing her body against his, hard. Her hands, tied in front of her could already feel his manhood pressing against her. She let her fingers trail against him before he abruptly turned away.

“No, you do not deserve that, not yet.” He stated and began to guide her to the next room. She pouted, unaccustomed to being denied.

Inside the second room, he guided her to the center, where a rope dangled from a pulley attached to the ceiling. He expertly tied a knot around her already bound hands and moved to the other end of the rope. He tugged until her hands were tightly above her head, and more until her feet were dangling off the ground.

“Wait, this is uncomfortable!” she protested.

“Your comfort is not my concern,” he stated, knotting the rope and securing it.

“Please, I don't deserve this! I will do whatever you want.” She wriggled again, trying to get comfortable.

“This is what I want,” he stated firmly. “You know your word. You may say it now, so that I can be certain you have not forgotten it.”

She kicked her feet below her. “Of course, I remember, such a stupid word. 'Bananas'!”

He nodded and slowly walked towards her. “Now simply say it one more time if you truly wan
t an end of our bargain and I will let you go, free to do whatever you wish.”

She was silent, her eyes haughtily regarding his. She knew she was better than this, that he would have an awful time getting her to submit to him. That she was excited by what he was doing was irrelevant.

A smirk crossed his weathered face. He moved to her and expertly tied a cloth across her eyes, completely blocking her vision.

Once again, she protested his actions. “Is this really necessary? It's not like I can stop you, you've made that quite clear.”
